Windsor Smith, founder of Windsor Smith Home, is an innovative force in the design industry whose elegant interiors rethink our homes for modern day living. In this ever-changing world, integrating the elements of a home to the larger themes connecting us with our families, friends and larger community, is more important than ever. Windsor re-invents the design process and ushers in a new way of considered luxury living. This core philosophy was unveiled in her House of Windsor – a ground-up project developed by Windsor and presented with Veranda Magazine to much acclaim. The classic equestrian estate was the definition of approachable luxury living and was ultimately purchased by Gwyneth Paltrow. Her latest development project is the next evolution for The New Homefront. Nestled in a coveted enclave of Los Angeles, it is a 12,000-square-foot estate that returns two lost luxuries back to contemporary families: time and togetherness. Designed to be as easy to live in as it is to maintain, this gracious, but contemporary home uses Windsor’s celebrated break-the- rules space planning and smart, easy technology. Published by design-forward house Rizzoli, Windsor has also captured her signature design approach with Windsor Smith Homefront: Design for Modern Living. The title, named by Architectural Digest as one of the top 20 most influential design books of the year when it was released, shared Windsor’s vision with a greater audience for this new paradigm of dispelling norms and defining a fresh way to define our homes and how they can support a modern lifestyle. Balancing classic and modern, she’s known for vignettes that celebrate time-honored traditions while daring the style wildcards that make us stand up and notice. A questioner of conventions both inside the home and in the design profession at large, Windsor pioneered the inventive online decorating service, Windsor Smith Room in a Box, the first online luxury interior design services platform. Windsor is widely published and was honored by Veranda magazine as one of the top 25 design influencers in their 25-year history. The Windsor Smith aesthetic can also be found through an array of product collections with leading home furnishing companies including Century Furniture, Kravet, Arteriors, Mansour Modern, and Jamie Beckwith Collection. Her expansive collection for Century Furniture won the Pinnacle Award for Top Major Collection Release of 2017. Opus by Windsor Smith debuts as her first private label furniture collection – a collection previously only available to her private clients.
“When I create homes, I’m always mindful of the stories that will unfold there. I think of the word “shelter” and how it has taken on a greater meaning today: homes must protect us, nurture us, entertain us, comfort us and encourage interaction while preserving the sanctity of private spaces. If this year has taught us anything, it’s that those stories have become more important than ever. Beauty and luxury exist within a new paradigm—what is referred to as a “post opulent” design philosophy is taking hold…less is more, decluttering, luxury defined by quality, substance and simplicity.”
