It can draw the eye to certain areas of a room, bring a rhythm to the space or add a sense of intimacy and scale. It is because of this, many clients, like Rockwell Group, an award-winning, interdisciplinary architecture and design firm, collaborate with Focus Lighting to tackle the task of designed lighting.
Rockwell Group and Focus Lighting have worked together for over two decades on a variety of projects from hotels and restaurants to residences and a Broadway theater. Rockwell Group, known for extraordinary experiences and built environments across the globe, is a leader in the interior and architecture design industries.

Lawrence re-imagines the ambiance of Dr. Morbius’s alien garden from the movie as a 21st century leisure space filled with red foliage, green skies, unusual formations, and exotic animals. New ceramic pieces by Trish DeMasi and a carved onyx sconce installation by Stephen Shaheen will be on view alongside a recent custom lounge chair design by Lawrence, an asymmetric shearling rug by Rosemary Hallgarten, and a dramatic 1966 tapestry by Jan Yoors, one of the twentieth century’s seminal textile artists. Fantastical works by Judy Kensley McKie, Patrick Weder, Andreea Avram Rusu, Gregory Nangle, Mami Kato, and Henry Bermudez round out this extraordinary environment. Rodney Lawrence and many of the artists will be on hand for an opening reception in conjunction with What’s New What’s Next at the New York Design Center on Wednesday, September 14, 5:30-7pm. The exhibition continues, fittingly, through October 31, 2022.

2022-09-14 16:30:00America/New_YorkHow Sense of Place Influences DesignDesigner, architect and VERANDA Contributing Design Editor Joy Moyler, together with Paloma Contreras, Michael Del Piero, and Elizabeth Graziolo, will explore examples of design properly rooted in a place and time.A sense of place is the starting point for all great design. At the beach, in the city, or in the unparalleled light of Southern California, a project’s locale should inform every element of architecture, interiors and landscape. Ultimately, the dialogue between a home and its surroundings creates an emotional connection for the people who live there. Designer, architect and VERANDA Contributing Design Editor Joy Moyler, together with Paloma Contreras, Michael Del Piero, and Elizabeth Graziolo, will explore examples of design properly rooted in a place and time. The discussion will examine the role of lighting in establishing and enhancing a link to environment and setting in order to create spaces that feel naturally grounded.

How can brands distinguish themselves in a crowded field, offering a directional approach rather than more of the same? A thoughtfully designed space is a personal snapshot of who we are now and what we want to be known for in the future. As architects and designers, we are in the cherished and sacred position of helping clients share their stories and live their values with every choice they make in a design project. Whether it’s the colors in a room; or the coffee table created from repurposed wood, every selection should be deliberately and authentically chosen and have a personal value attached to it. In this conversation, we’ll explore the different ways we learn a client’s personal story and values and how it can be reflected back to them through their design projects.

Join us when Clodagh sits down with Jiun Ho in a conversation about finding beauty in sustainability.
From Ireland, to Spain, to Manhattan, and so many places in between, Clodagh is a pioneer of the green design movement. In her remarkable design career, she’s kept her eyes focused on her twin passions: sustainability and beauty.
Jiun is just back from his design residency in the Maldives at Soneva Fushi where he explored the relationship between glass and metal. With repurposed materials as his only source material, Jiun transformed the glass of shattered wine bottles into shimmering objects of light, and discarded metal into complex foundations of support.
We are thrilled to welcome Clodagh to JHNY and look forward to a conversation we know will be thought-provoking + lively!
Come join us for tasty bites and drinks, including a new cocktail: Spicy Clodagh, from 5-6, followed by an informal conversation.

Project Ready is a 5-Collection line for those who want the quality and craftmanship of SA BAXTER hardware but need shorter lead times or lower cost. This line is produced in volume yet continues to use the highest quality metals and signature lost wax casting process to create a truly unique series. SA BAXTER is proud to announce the launch of their latest Architectural Design collection, “ The Bernoulli Suite” by founder Scott Baxter. This classic yet modern collection pays homage to Scott’s time spent as a trained pilot. The classic industrial shapes are both functional and stylish. The Bernoulli Suite will be a part of our Project Ready line and available in a quicker lead time. Guests who attend will receive a little swag bag and refreshments will be served.
